Chess variant played on a rectangular-like board with diagonal square grid. The roles of the orthogonal and the diagonal directions are exchanged.

Otherwise the rules of chess apply, with the following differences:

• Pawns move forwards, in diagonal direction, and capture obliquely forwards on adjacent fields. They can make a double-move from their initial fields. If a pawn captures to the initial field of another pawn of the same colour, it can still make a double-move from there.
• Castling works with the bishop, and only in one direction, on the back diagonal. During castling, the king moves two squares, occupying the place of the bishop, and the bishop moves one field toward the original position of the king.
• Pawns promote on the opposite side of the board, on the two back diagonals, i.e. on those fields where the opposing non-pawn pieces start.

The bishop's and the rook's role has been reversed: the bishops can move in parallel to the sides of the board (which are diagonals of the grid), and the rooks can move obliquely (which are orthogonal directions in the grid). It is however still true that the bishops remain on the same field colour, while rooks do not have this restriction.
