Chess variant

Chancellor Chancellor

Chess variant where the queen is replaced by a fairy chess piece, the chancellor, which is the combination of rook and knight.

Chancellor = Rook + Knight

Otherwise the rules of chess apply, with the following difference:

Notes

In this game, the bishop is more valuable than the knight (even more than in standard chess), because there is no queen which can also move diagonally, but the knight's move is no longer unique. Exchanging the first bishop to a knight is worse than in chess, since no queen can control the lost diagonals. See also: Value of pieces.
