Chess variant where the white queen is replaced by a fairy chess piece, the chancellor (rook-knight compound). Black has the usual set of pieces with queen.

Otherwise the rules of chess apply, with the following difference:

Pawns can promote to any piece which that side had at the beginning of the game (except pawn and king).

Notes

The two sides have different armies, but the queen and the chancellor have roughly the same value, thus the game is more or less equal. The white bishops are more valuable than the blacks, and vice versa for the knights.
